Member Spotlight: Colton Johnston

  1. How did you get into CrossFit? My fiancé Emily used to do it in the past and suggested we try it out with a couple people she works with. Originally I was not into the idea but went along to the first workout to appease her and try something new. The intensity of the workouts was new to me as I was used to just going to the gym and doing curls, bench, and avoiding any leg workouts and I really enjoyed the variety it presented. The atmosphere is very reminiscent of team sports back in high school with everybody working collectively towards the same goal.

  2. What keeps you motivated to work out(CrossFit)? I stay motivated by continually pushing myself and trying movements I either could not do before or could barely squeak through. The competitions are also drivers as it presents a healthy atmosphere to test your abilities and win some bragging rights.

  3. What positive benefits have you noticed either mentally or physically since starting CrossFit? Since starting CrossFit, I have noticed a considerably physical difference mostly around my slowly shrinking beer gut. I have also seen more definition in my shoulders and generally have more energy throughout the day. It also helps mentally by providing challenges that are within your ability to overcome and conquering these challenges has boosted my personal confidence.

  4. What is your favorite CrossFit Workout? So far the Granite Games was my favorite workout, it was incredibly varied and pushed all your muscle groups to the limit while being in a competitive atmosphere for the extra push

  5. Who is your favorite CrossFit Games Athlete? My sweet darling Emily Elder

  6. What is your favorite Movement in CrossFit? Definitely rope climbs, was something I could never do as a kid so I was really excited to start doing them

When I was a kid, we made a large catapult out of a 2x2 and a rounded piece of concrete that we used to launch ourselves in the air. I managed to get launched over then fence and broke my arm and elbow

– Do you have a favorite quote?

As iron sharpens iron, one person sharpens another

– If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you?

Jeff Bridges, I’m sure he’d find the most relaxed way to live my life
