Q: How did you get into CrossFit?

It was just before Christmas, I was scrolling through Facebook and I saw one of the many fitness adds recruiting for the new year. Then I saw one ad looking for Women in Watauga for a six-week challenge. I thought “Hey, I’m a woman, I’m in Watauga, why not.” I didn’t even know it was CrossFit until I showed up for the first class. 2017 was a year of failing at every workout I did, I quickly lost motivation throughout the year. My only Goal for the challenge was to finish the six-weeks; I didn’t even make it to three-weeks before I decided I was going to stick with it.

Q: What keeps you motivated to work out(CrossFit)?

I am motivated by the community. I started in the 8:30 am class, which I knew wouldn’t work with my schedule, so I had to move to the 6 am class. After my workout on Monday, Coach Ali had reach out to me to make sure I was okay, because I had missed her class. I have never been to a gym, or exercise regimen, where the coaches cared enough to check-in if you missed a class.

The 6am class is just as amazing and they have become more of a team to me than just people who work out the same time as me.

Q: What positive benefits have you noticed either mentally or physically since starting CrossFit?

As I had mentioned before, 2017 was a rough year for me and 2016 wasn’t much better. I can positively say, I am happier right now than I was at any point in the past two years, and It is greatly due to being a part of CrossFit and the people I have met through CrossFit.

Physically, I feel healthier and stronger. I feel more productive in my regular day to day. I began to think I was never going to be strong or fit, and daily I have proved to myself how wrong I was  about what I could and couldn’t do. I amaze myself, every time I come to the box because I can finish that workout, I can lift that weight, I can squat that low; If I told myself a month ago, this is what I could do, I would have rolled my eyes and walked away.

Q: What is your favorite CrossFit Workout?

I am still very new to CrossFit, so I haven’t gotten to do all the ‘fun’ workouts yet.

I do really enjoy EMOMs. I do not have endurance, only sheer will-power. The rest gives me that moment to encourage myself to not be defeated by an inanimate object.

Q: Who is your favorite CrossFit Games Athlete?

Camille Leblanc-Bazinet.

Q: What is your favorite Movement in CrossFit?

    Back Squats are my favorite.

Q: Do you have a favorite quote?

“Something good completed now, is better than something perfect completed never.”

-Elizabeth Gilbert

“Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, it’s at the end of your arm. As you get older, remember you have another hand: The first is to help yourself, the second is to help others.”

-Audrey Hepburn

Q: If you could meet anyone in the world dead or alive who would it be and why?

Audrey Hepburn. She had such a positive outlook on life and humanity. A lot of my redeeming characteristics I attribute to idealizing her from a young age.
