Coach Spotlight: Ali Champion

How did you get into CrossFit? 

I started CrossFit when CrossFit Watauga first opened. I worked with Derek at the time and he tried to push everyone in the office to at least try it once. I did, and haven’t stopped since. 

 

What keeps you motived to workout? 

The number one thing that keeps me motivated is the community. I see everyone in there trying to improve themselves daily and that makes me want to work harder.

 

What positive benefits have you noticed since starting CrossFit? Mentally/ physically 

The positive benefits would definitely be adding more weights to my bar that I could not do before. It’s one of the best feelings. Improving at certain skills is also been a benefit physically that I’ve noticed. 

When I go a few days without working out I start to feel sluggish. CrossFit has become such a huge part of my life that if I take too much time off I normally come back struggling to get back into that routine. 

 

What is your favorite CrossFit workout? 

Diane 

21-15-9 

Deadlifts 

Handstand Push-ups 

I like this workout because deadlifts and handstand push-ups are two of my favorite movements. It’s a fast paced workout that is completed pretty quickly but leaves you walking funny for a few days. 

 

Who is your favorite games athlete? 

Easy. Celia Gabbinia. I’ve been following her workouts and progression as an athlete lately and she’s very inspirational and fun to watch #goals 

 

What is your favorite movement in CrossFit? 

I like dumbbell swings and dumbbell snatches a lot. I like that it works both your legs, arms and core at the same time. I also like how I start out super confident thinking I got this and then a few reps in it hits me that I don’t got this. It’s a killer move! 

 

How do you define success? 

I define success with one word. Happiness. I don’t believe material things, money, titles make you successful. When you are most happy you are most successful. I believe if you approach everyday with pure happiness then it’s hard to lose. If that’s family, friends, working out. Just find what makes you happy and pursue that forever and you can’t go wrong. 

 

What is your favorite quote?

If you had to eat one meal, everyday for the rest of your life what would it be? 

Saltgrass steak with BBQ shrimp all day everyday! 

 

If you were an animal what would it be? 

Obviously a cat because cats are the coolest creatures on the planet. They are low-key, laid back just enjoying their nine lives.
